Radio although not as big as it once was is still an important tool in today's media for spreading information to millions of people very quickly and cheaply compared to other methods of advertising as radio stations such as capital fm has over 7 million active listeners weekly while capitals major competitors kissFM has 4.9 million weekly listeners as well as it being one of the most advertised radio stations as the company that owns them comunicorp(all of the uk except england) has radio stations many different countries and capital is also owned by global radio(england).
For this piece I will be focusing on the radio station capital FM.
Capital FM has been running since the 1970's with there first broadcast being on 1973 making it one of the oldest radio stations but this capital was focused on information instead of the charts or what is happening in the celebrity world this type of format wasn't used until the 2000's where the world of music was become more prevalent and more influential.
The main audience for capital is middle class white people living in and around london but so capital can appeal to the most people they offer a variety of shows to show their diversity in music and show off different styles of DJ's they hire or have on hand as well as different music they have to offer the audience even though it is usually for just an hour or so and then it would be back to the chart hit's.
Now Capital hasn't lasted this long without making some serious cash with getting money to broadcast adverts getting deals to broadcast up and coming artists songs as well as hosting many events such as the summer time ball and on top of all this they get some of the biggest stars on the radio shows they have to either DJ or to talk about them and what they want to talk to there UK fans.
