goggle box's

goggle box is a t.v. series currently in its 4th series and it shows how people all over England react and think about the latest stories and films shown on tv and in this it will be split up in 4 pieces to; representation, audience, message, production value.

Audience: the audience of the tv program is 16 years and above so it dosent get seen by the pre watershed audience but it is in the end older family audience as it has the x-factor for the teens, a poetical stories for the older generation of watchers and taken staring Liam nelson for the adult part so its not for everyone but its for the general public as they have most nationality that live in England and from all occupations such as a reverend and a wielder and students so they do have every stretch of life from what is shown.

Representation:
they have a different family which represents a weird stereotypy such as there are two best friends that are both black and the producer have got alot of the scenes where they are eating as well as watching.
while they have a reverend that still watches things like taken which is a violent film even though we are never told her religion but most religions say that violence isn't a good thing so why is she saying that the taken film is a very good one even though its nothing but violence.
so in goggle box they uses alot of stereotype's

production value:
in the tv show they uses two cameras one for a wide shot and one for close ups it also used a small team due to lack of space while working. they also used the house lights instead of brought ones from a studio to make it seem more natural to the audience.

message: the message i believe behind this is that not matter what race, sex, age, gender or address you are if you have a interest chances are someone will have a similar or same interests which not only fulfils one of mazlowes needs but also shows a reason why we watch t.v. to be social and be together with similar intrests

charecter development

How can you enrich your narrative?
i can enrich my narrative by making it so the characters can be anyone on the street as they go threw real life problems that is faced modern day e.g. a family member leaving- looking for jobs and no one hiring you because of a disablity- or even losing someone your close to.

What elements can you add to bring your characters alive?
give them there depressing backstory yet funny little bits about them such as one is a obsevie compulsive while someone is delexyis while someone is clingy or just stupid

How will you actively seek to serve your chosen audience?
by communicating with them with social medias and if the show was to run for long enough and gain a following that is when the merchendise of the t-shirts and mugs and all the novelty things would come out but out of the start the only thing really for sale would be posters

Christmas consumerism and the role of the media

Christmas is the most wonderful time of they year but its also the most expensive time but thing is why is this? Well it all starts with an idea, that idea turns into a vision, that vision is put up on the t.v. screen as advert, this advert is turned into profit. The example of this is the John lewis advert with the two penguins. though an idea or a theme of the advert being in love and being a child that was then turned into a vision of a penguin and after many many many months the advert is shown and then a army of stuffed penguins show there face's to consume the masses in cuteness but this is all to generate profit and to generate hype for kids for Christmas it has done this magnificently where the largest version of the doll is 40cm tall and is sold for about 35 pounds on eBay it has got the value up to £395 at maximum and about £65 pounds minimum which has made alot of profit for John lewis and this was all from a single idea. This is just one example of how infulential the media is to people buy stuff. and this is the role of the media to build intrest and intrigue into a product or a idea.

media proposal :percy jackson t.v. series

belive i could do a teen tv show of the percy jackson series so focusing it on the adventure side like alot film industry does inbetween films i think i could do the coming of age hero story and having set in a high school or in london or somthing of that nature. i think for the opening when the main charecter who is a shy timmed boy is seemingly stalked by multiple people.
following with the books where he has been to multiple schools before hand but this is the first time somthing likes this has happened but the main thing is he always seems to be almost dieing a few months in to the school year and this time will be no diffrent the monster would be a vampire which gets away to be slain in the next episode.

the two best friends of the main charecter will be a tough skinned girl and a comdey relief boy but another girl who is very cutesy but is a genius when it comes to computers and history (convience) and this will be the main gang with side charecters as they come and go.

i think teens would like this as it would be based on a popular book series which i belive that they could relate to and it would be always changing with the new monsters constantly hassaling them.

main themes of the show: dealing with change, holding secrets and a coming age but a coming of a hero

Thoughts and feelings of grayson perry

url.jpgGrayson Perry is a famous cross dressing artists with a show that tries to portrait peoples feelings emotions and show them threw his eyes who they really are such as a mp that seemed to have no cracks  because he covered them with gold to a woman who turned her life around threw religion threw a art.

The show to me dose not mean much to me but i can see the appel and unique opportunity to see the world of people who have changed there lives and what they may see them selves as but to me i am not going threw any of theses problems when it comes to gender or needing a religion or hiding my emotions like these people are.

the show personally was a good window into a subject/type of topic i haven't gave much thought of the show it self was well made and was well filmed but even though i like they way they showed theses lives and that everything in the industry is constructed.

this was made by basing it off real life stories but editing them to be suitable for the average person and family to watch.
if the person was a celebreity figure that people would recognise the celebrity and this would mean people would watch it for more insights into a celebs life so this is what instrested the people watching but in a similar way to the jeremy kyle show they did real people as well but they still made it with people from a muslmamic background and poltical background and a transgender background to make the show intresting instead of having a white middel aged man all the way through would be intrested to watch it as its would be very up to date. but for people that were not famous they made a jeremy kyle sort of story which is also a very intresting to watch and think about

magazine evaluation

my role within making the paper was to make 1 one of the stories and then to publish it within the magazine the article was a page long and it was a top 5 most influential games ever which i also included pictures of some of the games I used on the paper. my role was one of the easier work wises as I only had to do a top 5 list which i feel bad for so next time I would like to be apart or in a more meaningful role almost anyone can do a article. i felt i didn't offer much to the group because i didn't get involved enough

evaluation of my article 20th october 2014

my article is well put together but some of the terminology and the layout of the article could of been better as well as the range of things i put on that list as i could of made it a top 10 list instead of a top 10 as well as i could of put a wider range of time stamps on as most of the games are from the 1980s-1990s and this may seem bisased even though the magazine is supposed to be a unbiased one but all in all the review was bright and had the same colour scheme as the other articles of the magazine as well as the games are recognisable to the audience which was one of my goals when making this list.

top 5 most inspirational games ever

THE TOP 5 MOST INSPIRATIONAL GAMES EVER

5.Metroid (1986)
Metroid has been a signal for most gamers for just under 30 years of difficulty made fun even now the original Metroid is seen as a difficult game with the precision needed but after beating the game on the hardest difficulty gamers was shocked to see that this athletic, strong and resourceful warrior is A WOMEN. You have no idea the shock on young boys faced when they saw this for the first time but now this is one of biggest named brands for Nintendo names even though it has gone though several re-imaginations.

4.super Mario brothers (1983) super Mario brothers is one of the first games ever created with the revolutionary buttons it was one of the first games needed using a controller and ever since then Mario is now a house hold name and is a massive face of the industry as well as how much this caught the public eye and Nintendo has.

3.Zelda the ocarina of time made the industry more of an art form and showed the important of music while in game to allow the player to feel what the video cant portray on its own as well as the way most dungeon s are set out now all having constant theme such as a water dungeon has the theme of sinking and the final boss fight of that area takes place near the bottom of the ocean.

2.Pac-man (1980)
Pac-man is on this list due to the amount of great ideas and great games can come from such a simple premises and goal: eat dots and dodge ghosts in recent years the little muncher has joined the realms of next gen and graced his presences in a TV. Show but Pac-man will always be that little game that was so simple to was addicting.

1.tetris (1984)

the master pieces that is Tetris is just a joy and a well known game it was the first “causal game” with the Lego pieces falling into place gaining points nothing was better when we got that one little row and progress to the next level is just a joy but this game is what has set up the industry for what it is something that doesn’t have to be difficult to be challenging and is simple enough that anyone with a phone could do it. If there is any doubt about this Sega, Nintendo and even Hasbro (the name on most DISNEY products) all have been influenced by this game.

Testament of youth by Alex Thomson 17/10/201

url.jpg
Testament of youth is based on the life of vera best selling book which is still being sold after its realises in 1933 of the same name. directed by James Kent which has previously directed the "white queen" and "inside men" and stars Alicia Vikander as the main character Vera Brittien.
in the review ill be focusing on 2 major points of the film adaptation of the book which is based on real happenings:
  • narrative/context of film
  • characters/performance
testament of youth is set during 1913-1920 and little further on and this is at the start to end of world war 1 so get the tissues ready its gonna be a  tear jerker. world war 1 was a sad sad sad time for England where food was getting low and people where starting to believe we were going to lose this war a be over run by Nazi's as well as this it was a extremely hard time for woman before the war woman had to work harder to get into college/university and they were still seen as objects for men to be given and up until 1918 women were not aloud a vote but that year that was changed so this shows it was hard to be a women in a world ruled by men.

The narrative of the film is good the pacing is slower then most of film's but the detail that each scene does to set the emotion and tone of that scene is something to behold. the film starts at the end of ww1 were there is partying in the streets as Vera the main character is standing alone not smiling as everyone else is almost obvious of what is happening which is emphasised with the sound being drowned out as if she's in deep fault but then we are treated to a rewind of 4 years before the war started and was only hinted at. Vera is there with her brother Edward and one of his school buddies victor at a lake and them having a good time. after about 2 minutes in a lake they start to walk home as she is outraged that her farther has brought her a brand new grand piano and then complaining that she wanted to go to Oxford  (ungrateful brat)  we are then introduced in the middle of her argument with her farther Roman another school buddy of Edward, while Roman is there Vera lets out a fem mine side and grows affectionate towards him and eventually wanting to date her but this could not of happened at a worst time as world war has been highly likely and then the war is declared and all men sign up for the fast and easy war the media said but this is when Vera is tested with all her friends and family that are male off to war. if you want to find out the rest of the story watch the film.

The characters in this film have a few main ones and a few important side characters the main characters are:
  • Vera Britten
  • Roland Leighton
  • Edward Britten
  • Victor Richardson
the side characters are:

  • Mr Britten
  • Mrs Britten
  • aunt Florence
all of whom give a stealer performance with each one of these characters and showing the purist form of emotion making us believe that we are apart of the war at home as it was for the characters that actually lived it i cannot fault the acting in this film with each expression making the audience laugh, smile, cry (which I did a little bit) which means i cant fault the performance of these actors

in conclusion testament of youth can be compared to great films such as "a very long engagement" which is about a female protagonist and a love interest that goes to war. This film could of been better maybe more viewing of what it was like on the front maybe have it be inspired by instead of based on since this means there could of been more of a creative element to this as this is what i belilive lets it down but it is a brilliant film all the same.

love doesn't grow on trees thoughts and opinions

love doesn't grow on trees
love doesn't grow on trees is set in a time before the internet had really had really grown and porn was not easy to come by and the trials and tribulation of a young porn addict meeting someone to change his life. the main theme of this film is people growing up and when you have to let go to move on but this is the case of a teenage boy who was losing his social life all for the sake of porn.

this film has a good message and meaning behind every shot looks good and the unrealistic realism of them all of them and the narrative is very good as well

TELLING LIES THOUGH AND OPINONS

telling lies thought and opinions
telling lies is a good short film showing peoples true emotions and true thoughts even thought they don't actually show them this is apparent with every character/voice actor having a different colours that corresponds with there voice but they all share the colour of white when they tell a lie as the message is little white lies this is some what emphasised by the fact the font is smaller than the other text.

the film as a whole has a theme of betrayal, regret and looking for true friendship when you lose a lot of what you are or were you need true friend which the main character docent seem to have.

ralph film review

Ralph film review
Ralph is a dramatic romance, set in Paris in 2010, where the main character goes looking to find a number for a hotel. The focus on phone calls as majority of the lines happens around phone booths.
A theme of this is romance or love this is clear through all the film happening in France which is known for its romance and passion when it comes to love. This is one of the major parts of the film as it is also the motivation for the main character.

The protagonist is named Ralph a boy from southern England, who was most likely brought up on an estate which would explain a “street clothes” look but he is well mannered and is a patient but is also brave as he can travel with no friends just for looking for something. He is travelling alone is also not the best choice as him travelling to France yet he cannot speak a word of French so this means he had only planned up to a point. I see Ralph as a Brit abroad where he knows roughly to expect and doesn't want to cause trouble but somehow he not wanting to cause trouble, causes trouble.

In this film there is no clear antagonist in this short film but something that could be considered an antagonist is the lack of information or the wrong information as this is what gets in the antagonist’s way but if I person had to be chosen as the antagonist it would be the cafe owner who, when the waitress who was on break was helping Ralph, the owner tried to get Ralph to move and leave cause he was no longer spending money.

In conclusion Ralph is a mediocre film with it having good points with it having good acting and a good setting as well as an exceptional plot. It has good points but what lets it down is lack of music to set a tone and the logic behind the motivation is not that realistic as well as the end conclusion to the film is a bit iffy as well but ether way the film is a enjoyable experiences but in my opinion won’t be going to the Oscars any time to soon.
Get off my land review

Get off my land is a short film created and directed by Douglas Ray and star’s Robert Glenister who you may recognise from the con program hustle where he plays one of the main characters. This review will focus on 3 major points for the short film:

The plot

The characters

The realism of it all

The plot is (in my opinion) the most important part of any film if the viewers of a film can’t follow the film, then they cannot understand why the ending, that the film is building up to is worth all the fuss. This film at the start doesn’t seem to have much of a plot where it’s just two people walking into a field out in the country. One of them is played by Rafe Spall and the other is played by RuthWilson both of which are not doing much and exchanging very few words, with all this it is clear that the director doesn’t want us to expect much as this is a very mundane opening but this fact doesn’t take away from the film its self because even some Hollywood blockbusters have a boring start.
As the film continues then Robert Glenister enters the film who plays the owner of the land and tells the two people to get off his land as they are no longer on a public foot path, as that is what they are only aloud to walk on through his land. This entrance of a third character creates a problem that needs to be solved which then gets the audience engaged and intrigued on how the problem will develop and be solved.

This is problem is escalated when Rafe Spall says he will fight the farmer of owner for his land because he doesn’t want to leave the path and keep walking, the build and age difference of the two characters means it’s clear that the challenger would win as the farmer is fairly old but without saying a word the farmer walks back to his vehicle and the man goes back to the other person in victory. When the audience thinks that the suspense was anti climatic the farmer brings out a double barrel shotgun and shoots the challenger down. This is when the film which seemed mundane and a waste of time it turns dark and a sudden heart race even though its clear on where the movie is going to continue but that still doesn’t mean you don’t want to see what happens next.

The farmer then kills the other person to leave no possible witnesses and then looks directly into the camera and says “you know what I think this is a public footpath” meaning the problem that caused all of this was a miss understanding and caused the death of two innocent people which on first time of watching this sent a shiver down my spine and I’m sure of many peoples. That is where the film ends on the sad and dark tone but the plot was great with a boring beginning to give that much of a awesome ending when you think it’s going to be a waste of 5 minutes.

There are only 3 characters in the entire film one of them is a man (which literally the name of his character in the ending credits) who is obviously not suited to country life with him wearing trainers down muddy foot paths, struggling to climb over fences and thinking violence is a way to solve a problem instead of just doing what someone said. This character is obviously from the middle of a city and is well educated I can tell he is well educated by after walking off proudly he says “a moral hypocrisy of the land owning upper classes” shows he has had to deal with something like this before which shows means he would of have to lived around rich people and most schools and even some colleges would not teach what some words mean like hypocrisy but he was taught enough to know when he is in the wrong as he threatens a old man who is clearly older and more fragile than him all in the name of getting what he wants then believes that he was in the right until the man pulls a shotgun on him. He as well seems to only start the further argument to protect the honour of his lady friend.
The second character is named woman this character seems to have been raised in the countryside as she climbs over fences no problem and wear’s the correct shoes for what she is doing such as for walking down the path she wear’s boots instead of trainers and she knows when she is in the wrong and would of left if not for the boy causing trouble her character is sensible and not arrogant and would of walked away with her life if the boy didn’t make the problem worse she would of walked away with her life.

The third and the most complex of the characters is the farmer this character is just using his own right and following the law by telling people to get off his land that his family owned which they own which is fair enough and he is also very intelligent as he knew he would not be able to win in a fist fight with the man so he pulls out something that would of been used to fight for land which is guns but he is also quite psychotic in the fact that he talks to people that are not there and he seemed to kill them for no reason other than he challenged me so he must die and he knew those deaths were pointless because he then says that it was a public foot path which he said it wasn’t which sparked the original problem.
Finally the realism of the film is exceptional up until the boy starts talking and wants to get into a fight just so they can keep on walking which in its self is not plausible also the farmer killed two people in cold blood and doesn’t seem to show any remorse unless it is your job to kill and you don’t show any remorse or sadness for what you just did then you are not human. So in short the film is very realistic up until the 3rd quarter of the film.

To sum this all up id recommend this film to most people I know but just remember to bring the tissues and the swear jar cause those two things are going to be used a lot.

my evalutation on my 60 second video

This short 60 seconds is not great I could of been more creative of what I did and I could of done it multiple times to see which one I would of preferred and to see if I could of done it without stuttering my words throughout but I do believe that I have given a further insight into who I am and what my personality is.
